India’s silent killer in the sea INS Aridman! Capable of carrying out nuclear attack up to 3500 km, know its features

INS Aridaman commissioning ceremony 2026: India’s maritime security has now become as strong as an iron fort. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh today inducted the indigenously-equipped nuclear submarine INS Aridaman into the Indian Navy’s fleet. This is not just a submarine, but a powerful warrior hidden under water that provides a security shield to India’s no-first-use nuclear policy.

India’s dominance in the Indian Ocean

India has now joined the list of countries that have the nuclear triad (the ability to launch nuclear strikes from land, air and sea). INS Aridman is the third nuclear submarine (SSBN) in the Arihant series, which can remain hidden in the ocean for long periods of time and strike the enemy.

Armed with deadly weapons

The strike capability of INS Aridman is many times greater than that of its predecessor. Equipped with K-4 ballistic missiles. This submarine is equipped with K-4 missiles with a range of 3500 km, which can destroy distant cities of the enemy country in an instant. Equipped with Sagarika missiles, this missile, which has an accurate range of 750 km, is extremely effective for short-range targets. Compared to the previous model, it has been given 8 missile launch tubes, which means that it can carry a greater number of missiles.

An amazing example of 90% indigenous technology

Built at the Ship Building Centre in Visakhapatnam, this submarine is a prime example of Make in India. More than 90 per cent of the submarine has been designed and manufactured in India. The nuclear reactor designed by Indian engineers gives it the power to stay underwater for weeks. Modern torpedo tubes and an advanced sonar system keep it safe even in deep water.

Why is INS Aridman special?

A normal submarine has to surface frequently, but being a nuclear submarine, it is almost impossible for the enemy to detect the Aridman. It gives India a second strike guarantee, meaning if any country launches a first nuclear attack on India, India can retaliate from the seabed and destroy the enemy. The induction of INS Aridman into the Navy is a clear message to neighboring countries like China and Pakistan that India’s maritime borders are now completely impenetrable.
