The smash attack is an attack that is done with the mace. This attack increases the damage done and has to be done for some of the enchantments to work. Basically, the smash attack is what makes the mace a good weapon that can do a lot of damage.
What is the Smash Attack?
Before I start, I’ve done a lot of videos already about the mace. The smash attack does a lot of different things to increase the damage done by the mace.
First off, without doing the smash attack, the mace does only six base damage, which is the same as an iron sword. Doing the smash attack will accumulate more damage.
If you perform a smash attack:
- The first three blocks fallen will do four damage per block.
- The next five blocks will do two damage.
- After that, one damage per a block fallen.
Mobs within 2.5 blocks of the mob that is attacked with the smash attack will get hit with knockback.
Also, if you perform a smash attack and hit a mob, this negates the fall damage before that point, meaning you won’t take any fall damage. You will still take fall damage after the point of hitting the mob. However, this means you could fall from a very high point and not die from fall damage.
Enchantments and the Smash Attack
Now let’s go through how this works with enchantments.
The Density enchantment increases the damage by 0.5 per a level of the enchantment for each block fallen. The maximum level is five. This can increase the damage by 2.5 per a block. But this pairs well with doing an attack as it increases the damage.
I should also mention that Breach, Density, Smite, and Bane of Arthropods are incompatible with each other. So you can only have one of these enchantments on your mace.
The only enchantment where you need to do a smash attack for it to work is the Wind Burst enchantment. The maximum level is three.
If you perform a smash attack, this will create a wind charge effect that can knock back surrounding mobs and launch the player in the air.
- At level one, it can launch the player eight blocks in the air.
- 16 blocks with level two.
- And 24 blocks with level three.
It could be possible to chain the attacks together with the Wind Burst. Also, the Wind Burst doesn’t negate fall damage, so you will take fall damage.
How to Do a Smash Attack
The smash attack is performed by falling 1.5 blocks. I would just round that up to two blocks. You can tell that you can perform a smash attack as there will be a clink sound when you hit a mob.
This can be tricky to do as you can’t do a smash attack on flat terrain. The best idea would be to have some blocks that you can go up two blocks, then fall down and do it. Other ideas is if the terrain is uneven, you could jump and do it. Or use other blocks like scaffoldings.
Also, wind charges could be used to launch you up in the air and, if you time it right, you can do a smash attack with the mace.
Probably the best way to do a smash attack will be having a Wind Burst on your mace, as this could launch you in the air and you could keep hitting mobs with the smash attack to launch yourself in the air again.
