What Does the Breach Enchantment Do in Minecraft?

The Breach enchantment is a new enchantment that can only be put on the mace. The Breach enchantment is in the 1.21 update. To get it currently, you’ll have to turn on the experiments. If there are any changes, I’ll do an updated video.

How to Get the Breach Enchantment in Minecraft

The Breach enchantment can be enchanted on the mace using the enchanting table. A Breach enchanted book can be acquired from the ominous vault as one of the loot items ejected at 6.1%. This enchanted book can be either a Breach enchantment or a Density enchantment.

To unlock the ominous vault, you will have to consume an ominous bottle to get the Bad Omen effect to be within range of a trial spawner to start an ominous trial and turn the trial spawner into an ominous trial spawner. If you defeat the total mobs from an ominous trial spawner, there’s a 30% chance to eject an ominous trial key that can be used to unlock the ominous vault. If you want to know more about the ominous vault, I have a card on the top right to a post about it.

The Breach enchantment does appear through the enchanted book trade with librarian villagers and through other means like fishing. So the Breach enchantment will be easy to get.

What Does the Breach Enchantment Do in Minecraft?

The Breach enchantment will reduce the armor effectiveness by 15% per level. The maximum level is four, so at level four it can reduce the effectiveness of armor by 60%. Armor effectiveness is an unusual term; I assume it just means the percentage of the total protection you get from armor.

I would point out that the Breach enchantment seems to be geared more towards PVP, as I could see a mace being less effective in PvP without the Breach. Also, in Minecraft, there are mobs that have armor points, although these amounts are small. Mobs can wear armor, but other mobs like the shulker has 20 armor points. Large magma cubes have 12, medium magma cubes have six, small magma cubes and the Wither have four, and zombie mobs have two. Outside of PVP, the Breach is useful against some mobs.

One other important part is that the Breach enchantment is incompatible with the Density, Smite, and Bane of Arthropods. This means you can only have one of these enchantments on your mace. Density will increase the damage by 0.5 per a level with a maximum level of five for each block fallen. At level five, you can do 2.5 damage per a block fallen. The Smite and Bane of Arthropods do 2.5 damage per level with a maximum level being five. The Smite does damage to undead mobs like zombies, zombie variants, and the Wither. The Bane of Arthropods affects arthropod mobs like the spiders and bees.

This post is for the Breach enchantment, but I prefer anything that does more damage, like Density. It’s hard to know the exact math, but the Breach does have its uses against armored opponents, especially players, so it is useful in PvP.
